Haad Rin Beach Koh Phangan is located on the southern tip of the island and the most spoken about Koh Phangan beach due to the full moon party.
Haad Rin Beach can be divided into two sections:
There is a sunrise rise beach and a sunset beach. The sunrise beach (Haad Rin Nok) is the most popular and also the lively party beach in which the Full Moon Party is held. This happens once at the end of each month. The sunset beach (Haad Rin Nai) is the much quieter beach. Haad Rin Beach in the day time is one of the most stunning beaches on the island.
There are restaurants and shops located in the town of Haad Rin Koh Phangan which is just few minutes walk away from the ocean. You definitely won’t run out of the things to do in the tourist hub of Haad Rin Koh Phangan.
About Haad Rin
Haad Rin is a love-it-or-hate-it sort of town and is for us the “Yang” in Koh Phangan‘s Yin Yang. If you are here to party it’s probably the best place to go, although there is much more to Haad Rin than what it is famous for.
Haad Rin also has two if the most beautiful beaches around the island. On one side, you will find Haad Rin Nai with romantic sunset views, long stretches of white sand and mangrove here and there. However, with the proximity of Haad Rin Pier, the water there isn’t always very clean. On the East coast is Haad Rin Nok, one of Koh Phangan’s most idyllic beaches stretching over one kilometre, with, surprisingly enough, extremely clear and clean water.
Shopping-wise, Koh Phangan is cheaper than its big sister Samui next doors and Haad Rin is neighbourhood with the most variety of shops, thanks to its touristy attraction. You’ll find a wide selection of any Full Moon item, such as the infamous fluorescent T-shirts, as well as local sarongs and jewelry. Looking to get a lifetime souvenir? There is probably one tattoo artist per corner, so take a piece of Koh Phangan back home with you!
The Parties and Events
Koh Phangan is first know as the backpacker, party island of Southeast Asia and this all started in Haad Rin! Indeed, if you’re after party heaven you can’t do better than Haad Rin with its most popular one night a month, the Full Moon Party. Every bar is hopping, the beaches packed with trance, dance, buckets and various other suspicious substances.
While the Full Moon Party itself is only one day a month, the 3 to 4 days before the full moon party each have several different “parties” per night at different locations in or near Haad Rin, the most famous of which is the Jungle Party and the Pool party. While the Full moon party is huge, the days leading up to it are often considered better parties as full moon can be incredibly large, hectic and crowded.

The Restaurants and Bars
It’s not all about the full moon parties at Haad Rin. The area is what a jaded travel writer would call ‘vibrant’ and is easily the best place in this part of Thailand for an extended evening out, taking in a good meal, bar-hopping and dancing till late. If you’re looking for a wild night out then head down the small sois leading to the beach and wander around until you find a hopping place – the later the better. Central Haad Rin is quieter in terms of volume but is still a busy place to be.
Ersatz western restaurants abound whereas Thai food stalls are not only a lot cheaper but more dependable, food wise. That said, a wander through the town’s streets reveals a surprising swathe of ethnic restaurants taking in Indian, Mexican, Italian, Japanese, Greek, Israeli, Moroccan, English pub grub, Scandinavian, Vietnamese and of course Thai food.
