Ao Ban Tai
One of the longest on the island
This sandy/stoney beach is 2.5 kilometres long, which forms part of the long unbroken stretch of beach that runs from Ban Khai right the way up to Thong Sala, behind which mainly exclusive accommodation is to be found. Despite being one of the most popular area with visitors after Haad Rin because of its close association with beach life and its parties, the beach very quiet all year round.
Getting there – Just a 50m from the main road, parking widely found to leave the bike.
Swimming – The coral reef is about 200 meters away, but no-one snorkels here, only the Thai fishermen venture in there depths. In low tidal season (April to November), swimming on the beach side of the reef is not always possible.
To do – There is a small marina in the centre of Ban Tai where you can commission boat and fishing trips. Again there are many watersports shops are schools to hire equipment.
Facilities – A wide variety of leisure amenities and dining options, music festivals and clubs, water sports and activities, cafes and bars – in short just about everything you’ll need during a stay in Koh Phangan.
Fun Fact – Most of the land along the coastline has been farmed as coconut plantation and the area takes on a dreamy desert island feel with palms leaning in to the calm emerald sea.
